The Blind Spot Inside the World’s So-Called “Leading” Consulting Firms

December 16, 2025 Stark Townend

The world’s “best” consulting firms (you know who they are) bring horsepower to the hardest business problems.

So what?  They also bring bureaucratic bottlenecks and burdensome drains on your time and resources.

The blind spot isn’t strategic intelligence.  It’s real world translation of the gap between insight and financial outcomes.  Slide decks don’t move revenue, operating systems do.  Most firms diagnose brilliantly — but stop short of quantifying impact before execution begins.  As a result, you and your leadership teams are asked to bet millions on “promises” rather than predictability.

On the surface, this week’s NorthShift chart is just a revenue curve. Underneath, however, it’s evidence of a disciplined system for turning strategy into measurable financial outcomes.

Furthermore, you end up paying an arm and a leg for an impersonal, hundred-page plan that these firms HOPE can work.  They tell you what needs to be fixed, but do they consistently tell you HOW to fix it and in what step-by-step sequence?

Spoiler alert: They don’t.

We’re not a run of the mill consulting firm. And that’s the point.

NorthShift was built with three distinct differences:

  • More precise accountability via more nimble algorithms.
  • Faster and less expensive deliverables.
  • Easier-to-apply action plans that don’t come from a dusty boilerplate template.

You need answers now, not next quarter.

A notable Columbia University study from Li & Nissim finds that when #growth and #profitability move together, the positive covariance significantly increases equity value (on average, the effect contributes more than 10% of a company’s enterprise valuation).  In high-growth companies, the effect can exceed 30%.

If you’re responsible for growth, this isn’t optional thinking anymore. Markets reward clarity, speed, and execution — not good intentions. If you’re relying on last year’s playbook to deliver next year’s results, the gap shown here isn’t hypothetical. It’s already forming in your numbers.
